About James Pinckney II.
Dr. James Pinckney II is a board-certified family physician licensed in Texas and California and the founder of Diamond Physicians, a Dallas-based direct primary care practice he launched in 2012. Diamond bypasses insurance middlemen to deliver personalized care directly to members — a model that has gained momentum as a response to the inefficiencies of conventional healthcare delivery.
In 2018 Dr. Pinckney incorporated Diamond Health as the parent company of four ventures: Diamond Physicians (the clinical practice), DrLink (a HIPAA-compliant telemedicine platform), Diamond Ventures (the investment arm), and Diamond Health MSO (a consulting firm). Together they reflect his broader vision of transforming healthcare delivery in America.
Dr. Pinckney studied general surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after graduating from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, then switched to family medicine to pursue a free-market primary care model. He completed his family medicine training at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas. His undergraduate liberal arts education at Wake Forest University shaped a holistic approach to medicine that incorporates nutrition and fitness into patient care, and it led him toward medical journalism — he joined Chasing the Cure Live with Ann Curry as a medical host in 2019.
Dr. Pinckney holds a US patent for a reflective surgical gown (US 7,627,908 B1, December 2009) developed in medical school. His honors include the Jackie Robinson Foundation "42 Under 40" National Award (2014), Super Doctors Texas Rising Stars (2015-2018), Top Doctors (2015, 2019), the D CEO Excellence in Healthcare Award for Outstanding Healthcare Practitioner (2019), and a Critic's Choice Award for Best Live Show for Chasing the Cure (2020). He serves on the Equinox National Healthcare Advisory Board, the Jackie Robinson Foundation's Scholar Selection Committee, and the Michael Finley Foundation, and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Outside of practice, Dr. Pinckney enjoys spending time with his wife Quiana and their children, James III and Autumn, playing golf, attending sporting events, and civic philanthropic ventures.
